Our trip to the farm

Last Thursday they sprayed Sarah's attic for "all stinging insects" after a few hornets turned up in Anthony's room. So, even though it was hot as hell that day, we had to get out of the house for a bit while it aired out.

"A bit" ended up only being 1/2 hour because it was so hot, but we had a fun half hour at the farm down the road at Kensington MetroPark.

Here are a few shots from Anthony's first trip ever. Lucas was sure to show him the ropes.

The Next Generation In Invention

Here's Daniel's latest story, published today by Metromote, about some robotics programs for kids in the area to get them into robotics and technology, largely funded by the military. Really interesting from a technological and a human perspective.

First grader!

She's keeps correcting me that's she's not in first grade YET, but I say if Kindergarten is over, first grader it is!

There was a little picnic for parents today and we snapped a few photos of Claire and her BF Viktoria. We're having a little "School's Out!" celebration on Friday night. She's so grown up! Reading like crazy (it still amazes me!) and creating the most incredible works of art. I can't wait to see what first grade will bring!

Remembering Judy

Here are some photos from Sr. Judy's visitation, as well as her "Remembering" from one of her fellow sisters and more (the first photo I found online...). Feel free to share some of your best memories of Judy here.

From Janet:

Here are some lovely photos of Judy's "life photos" and the nuns we visited there. Judy's family was awesome and we truly enjoyed visiting the old nuns and seeing Julie on the way home.

There were tons of people there and we heard lots of beautiful stories about Judy - nothing we didn't already know! We'll be talking to all of you soon and can give you more details. I donated $100.00 from the Balice family. Judy's family was so moved that we made the long trip from Ionia so I'm glad we did it. Of course her sisters both said "Oh yes, Dan Balice this, Dan Balice that - always talking about Dan Balice"!

The two nuns together are Sister Ann Isabelle (on the left) and Sister Olivia. Sister Ann Isabelle was (kindly) ordering us around like we were still in school and several times we found ourselves saying "yes Sister"! Gupp had Sister Ann Isabelle in 2nd grade and I had her for shorthand as a senior; Gupp and I both had Sister Olivia (Gupp was in HS and I was in junior high). The nun in the photo with me is Sister Christella - my home room and religion teacher in 11th grade - she's 94! I also saw my 11th grade English teacher, Sister Catherine Vincent (now Kathleen Schultz and a close friend of Judy's) but I forgot to get a photo of her :-( It was a long day but worth every minute!

And here is Judy's Remembering.
